Prayer of the Day
In times of storm and in places of calm, we give thanks, O God, for your presence. We give thanks, O God, for your Word that leads us through the storms to the place of calm and peace, which we find in your Son. In His name. Amen.
THE WORD OF GOD: First Lesson: 1 Samuel 17:41-47
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." 4At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5"Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." 6Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." 8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
Psalm 9:9-20
9 The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
11 Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done.
12 For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
13 O LORD, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,
14 that I may declare your praises in the gates of the Daughter of Zion and there rejoice in your salvation.
15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
16 The LORD is known by his justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. Higgaion.
17 The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God.
18 But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish.
19 Arise, O LORD, let not man triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence.
20 Strike them with terror, O LORD; let the nations know they are but men.
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 6:1-13
1As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. 2For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. 3We put no stumbling block in anyone's path, so that our ministry will not be discredited. 4Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; 5in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; 6in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; 7in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; 8through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; 9known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; 10sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything. 11We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you. 12We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. 13As a fair exchange--I speak as to my children--open wide your hearts also.
Gospel Lesson: Mark 4:35-41
35That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side."
36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" 39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" 41They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"
THE LORD’S PRAYER: (Stand if you are able) WOV Page 39
P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray:
C: Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

Saturday Worship Action Team (SWAT):
Do you enjoy Saturday night worship? Are you interested in how this service functions; or, would you like some changes made? The SWAT members meet every 2 months for
approximately 1/2 hour after a Saturday service. Working with the team does not require much of your time and it's easy! Each person takes a turn "ushering" a service and always with another team member. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Mark.
Our next meeting is June 27th - hope to see you there!

Do you have a vacuum cleaner with attachments, dust buster, or cordless sweeper that you are going to get rid of or replace? If so, we could really use these items around the church to help keep the place ship shape! Please let us know if you are able to help with this request.
And as always, thank you for the many ways that you help out!

This year we have two St. John softball teams: the Saints and the Angels. Don Schwartz is managing the "older and more experienced" Saints team, while Scott Hudson is managing the new upstart Angels team. The two softball schedules will be posted in the Gathering Area. All games start at 7 PM on Thursday evenings. We invite our fans to come on out to the ball park and watch our games! Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, as many ball fields do not have any bleachers.

Please save your pop can tabs and turn them in at the church for the purchase of kidney machines. Over 120 and ¾ lbs. have been collected since February 2007! This fundraiser is for the purchase of kidney machines.

STEPHEN’S MINISTRY
How does the referrals process work?
1. A person, either yourself, a relative, or friend is hurting and in need of Christian care.
2. The Stephen Ministry Referrals Coordinator learns about this need for care from a pastor, a friend, or from the person in need of care and only after the person has granted permission.
3. The referrals coordinator meets with the person to talk about Stephen Ministry.
4. With the person’s permission, the referrals coordinator assigns a Stephen Minister to meet on a weekly basis with that person.
5. The Stephen Minister provides distinctively Christian and strictly confidential care.
Our Stephen’s Ministers are these to help....
