Children’s Sermon

THE WORD OF GOD:  Luke 4:14-21
14Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.  15He taught in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.  16He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read.  17The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:  18"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."  20Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him, 21and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

PRAISE SONG OF THE MONTH
Sunday School Students May Leave At This Time

I’ve Got Peace Like A River

I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river,  I’ve got peace like a river, in my soul, in my soul.  I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river, I’ve got peace like a river,
in my soul.

I’ve got love like an ocean, I’ve got love like an ocean, I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul, in my soul, I’ve got love like an ocean, I’ve got love like an ocean, I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul.

 I’ve got joy like a fountain,  I’ve got joy like a fountain, I’ve got love like an ocean in my soul, in my soul,  I’ve got joy like a fountain,  I’ve got joy like a fountain,  I’ve got joy like a fountain in my soul.

THE LORD’S TABLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER
P:  Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray:
All:                                        Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever.  Amen

SONGS DURING COMMUNION:

Grace Alone
Scott Wesley Brown and Jeff Nelson

Every promise we can make, every prayer and step of faith,
Every difference we will make is only by His grace.
Every mountain we will climb, every ray of hope we shine,
Every blessing left behind is only by His grace.

Chorus Grace alone which God supplies, strength unknown He will provide.
  Christ in us, our cornerstone, we will go forth in grace alone.

  Every soul we long to reach, every heart we hope to teach,
  Everywhere we share His peace is only by His grace.
Every loving word we say, every tear we wipe away,
  Every sorrow turned to praise is only by His grace.

Chorus Grace alone which God supplies, strength unknown He will provide.
  Christ in us, our cornerstone, we will go forth in grace alone.

I Believe in Jesus  Marc Nelson
  I believe in Jesus; I believe He is the Son of God.
  I believe He died and rose again.
  I believe He paid for us all.

   And I believe He’s here now, standing in our midst.
  Here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive.

  I believe in You, Lord;  I believe You are the Son of God.
  I believe You died and rose again;
  I believe you paid for us all.

2x  And I believe You’re here now, standing in our midst.
  Here with the power to heal now, and the grace to forgive.

Shout To The Lord

Verse 1 My Jesus, my Savior, Lord there is none like You;
  All of my days, I want to praise the wonders of Your mighty love.
  My Comfort, my Shelter, Tower of refuge and strength;
  Let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship You.

Chorus Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing,
  Power and majesty praise to the King;
  Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of Your name.

  I sing for joy at the work of your hands,
  Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand,
  Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.

Repeat verse and chorus

Ending   Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.

Alleluia

Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia! Alleluia!

Blessed Savior…

How I Love Him…

Thank you Jesus…

What a friend we, have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear;
What a privilege to carry, Everything to God in prayer.

Alleluia…

THE BENEDICTION:
 P:  May you see the world through eyes of faith and love.  May your hearts and minds be open to God’s will .  May you follow Jesus all the days of your life.  In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
All:  Amen

CLOSING SONG:  I Have Decided to Follow Jesus

  I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus.
  I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.

  The cross I carry, till I see Jesus, the cross I carry, till I see Jesus.
                        The cross I carry, till I see Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.

Though none go with me, still I will follow,
Though none go with me, still I will follow,
Though none go with me, still I will follow, no turning back, no turning back.

I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus.

Quilt Ministry at St. John

When: Sunday, October 11, 2009
Who:  Anyone who can tie a knot, women, men and teens
Where:  Down in the sewing room at St. John Lutheran Church
What to Expect:  Finish off quilts for the Cabrini Mission in Detroit.  Our goal is 200 by the first week of December.  We are working with St. Cyril and St. Mark church and already have 50 completed.  These will be handed out with Christmas food baskets.  The Cabrini Mission is like our Samaritan House.  We will do some for children also.
Plan on laughing, fellowship, saying a prayer over a quilt, and knowing you are helping those less fortunate.  It’s a way to give back without opening your wallet.
What to Bring:  A gently used flat sheet, they will be used to back the quilts.
Regular quilting days at St. John are                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    first Wednesday of the month from 9am -12pm and the second Tuesday of the month from 9am-3pm.  Quilting day at St. Cyril (18 and Ryan) is the 4th Saturday of every month.
Come and have fun!
