Pizza & A Movie:  "Oh, God!"

The 1977 movie "Oh, God!", directed by Carl Reiner and starring George Burns and John Denver, has been hailed as "a treasure of a movie" by movie critic Roger Ebert and classified as "comedy gold".  Come join us for a fun fellowship after our Saturday evening 5PM service.  You can even come early for the service.  Pizza (Tomato & Basil) will be served in The Gathering Area and the movie will be shown in the sanctuary immediately afterward.  Everyone welcome!

ALL SAINTS’ DAY

All Saints’ Sunday is November 1st. It celebrates the baptized people of God, living and dead, who make up the body of Christ. We remember all the faithful departed, especially those dear to us, who have passed on. All members of St. John who have died within the past year will be named for All Saints’ Day. If you would like anyone else included on this list, please call the church office with their name by October 28th.

Tied Together Quilting Circle is back after a year hiatus! We meet on the third Monday of each month, 7:00 p.m. in the conference room. This month our meeting is Monday, October. 19th. We learn new techniques as we do quilting projects together. We also do projects like banners for the church. You can work on your own project while you enjoy the company of other quilters. You do not need to be a member of St. John to come. We’d love to see new people and old members come back! For more information, call Kathie Proctor 586-784-5054 or Leona Thorman 810-798-8537.

We invite Pre-school thru 5th Grade children to join us! Kids of the Kingdom (KOK Kids) meet after 8:30 service from 9:45-10:20am upstairs in the room next to the library and then the children go down to Sunday School. Any questions or concerns, please contact Marlene (248-651-7394) or Karen (586-752-7734). We practice 3 times a month and usually sing once a month at the 10:30 service.

The Can-Do Ringers Bell Choir is open to anyone 4th grade on up. You don't have to know how to play a bell or read music to join. We take it slow and show you how to ring properly and follow the music. Rehearsals are on Mondays at 6:30pm. We play one Sunday a month at both services. Choir members must commit to make as many rehearsals as possible. If you are interested, call Pat Koleda at (586) 992-0646 or just come to our first rehearsal on Monday, September 13, at 6:30.

Quilt Ministry at St. John

When: Sunday, October 11, 2009

Who: Anyone who can tie a knot, women, men and teens

Where: Down in the sewing room at St. John Lutheran Church

What to Expect: Finish off quilts for the Cabrini Mission in Detroit. Our goal is 200 by the first week of December. We are working with St. Cyril and St. Mark church and already have 50 completed. These will be handed out with Christmas food baskets. The Cabrini Mission is like our Samaritan House. We will do some for children also.

Plan on laughing, fellowship, saying a prayer over a quilt, and knowing you are helping those less fortunate. It’s a way to give back without opening your wallet.

What to Bring: A gently used flat sheet, they will be used to back the quilts. Regular quilting days at St. John are first Wednesday of the month from 9am -12pm and the second Tuesday of the month from 9am-3pm. Quilting day at St. Cyril (18 and Ryan) is the 4th Saturday of every month.

Come and have fun!
