PRAISE RINGERS:   “Fantasia on Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”    by Kevin McChesney

Congregational Greeting & Theme of the Day:
“Wherever You Go”

Today is All Saints’ Sunday.  This is the day when we remember all those who have gone before us in the faith.
We call them Saints.  Their lives stand as a witness to the love and mercy of our Lord.  How they lived their lives
gives us hope in our daily struggles.

ENTRANCE HYMN: (stand, if you are able)
“For All the Saints”                              LBW No. 174

GREETING:
P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C: And also with you.

KYRIE: WOV Page 28
P:  Kyrie eleison;
C: Lord, have mercy.
P: Christe eleison:
C: Christ, have mercy.
P: Kyrie eleison:
C: Lord, have mercy.

HYMN OF PRAISE: WOV Page 29
Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God in the highest;
Glory to God, glory to God, and peace to God’s people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father,
We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for Your glory.
Glory to God, glory to God, glory to God in the highest;
Glory to God, glory to God, and peace to God’s people on earth.

PRAYER OF THE DAY:…………………………………………………………  WOV Page 30
P:   The Lord be with you.
C:   And also with you.
P:   Let us pray…

C: Holy God, Your wisdom has formed all that has been, that is, and that shall be.
Thank You for revealing Your glorious ways in Christ and in the lives of all Your saints.
Strengthen us to live faith-filled lives, with confidence in Your eternal love.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

PRAISE SINGERS:                   “The Lord is My Strength”    by Jeff McGaha

PRAISE HYMN:

Open the Eyes of My Heart

2x Open the eyes of my heart Lord.  Open the eyes of my heart.
I want to see You.  I want to see You.

Open the eyes of my heart Lord.  Open the eyes of my heart.
I want to see You.  I want to see You.

To see You high and lifted up,
Shining in the light of Your glory.
Pour out your power and love, as we sing holy, holy, holy.

2nd ending High and lifted up, shining in the light of Your glory.
Pour our your power and love as we sing, holy, holy, holy.

Holy, holy, holy, Holy, holy, holy, Holy, holy, holy.  I want to see You.
Holy, holy, holy, Holy, holy, holy, Holy, holy, holy.  I want to see You.

I want to see You.  I want to see You.  I want to see You.

THE WORD OF GOD:  First Lesson:  Ruth 1:15-18
15"Look," said Naomi, "your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her."
16But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where
you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.  17Where you die I will die, and there
I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me."
18When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.

Psalm 146
1     Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
2     I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
3     Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.
4     When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans
       come to nothing.
5     Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,
6     the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them-- the LORD, who
       remains faithful forever.
7     He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets
       prisoners free,
8     the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down,
       the LORD loves the righteous.

9     The LORD watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he
frustrates the ways of the wicked.
10   The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD.

Second Lesson:  Hebrews 12:1-3
1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders
and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the
cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not

grow weary and lose heart.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613
C:
Celtic Alleluia

                                            Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!
         Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!

P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, beginning in the 12th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.

Gospel Lesson:  Mark 12:28-34
28One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer,
he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"  29"The most important one,"
answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'
31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
32"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.
33To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor
as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."  34When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely,
he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON:..................................”Wherever You Go” .......................Pastor Mark Evans

THE HEALING SERVICE:
Prayer in preparation for the laying on of hands and anointing:
P: Gracious God, in baptism you anointed us with the oil of salvation, and joined us to the
death and resurrection of your Son.   Bless all who seek your healing presence in their
lives. In their suffering draw them more deeply into the mystery of your love, that following Christ in the way of the cross,
they may know the power of Jesus' resurrection;  the One who lives and reigns forever and ever.
C: Amen
Hymns Sung During the Anointing:    With One Voice No. 737, LBW No. 301
Those who desire may come forward and present themselves for prayers.  The ministers will lay their hands
on the person's head, anoint them with oil, then say a short prayer.

APOSTLES' CREED (stand, if you are able): WOV Page 33
C:  I believe in God, the Father almighty,
   Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
   He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
   He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again.
   He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
   the holy catholic Church,
   the communion of saints,
   the forgiveness of sins,
   the resurrection of the body,
   and the life everlasting. Amen.

OFFERING/OFFERTORY: (Stand, if you are able, and sing)…………. LBW 565
C: Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
 Praise Him, all creatures here below;
 Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

A: Let us pray. Merciful God,
C: we offer with joy and thanksgiving what you have first given us--
ourselves, our time, and our possessions, signs of your gracious love.
Receive them for the sake of him who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ
 our Lord.  Amen.

Sweet Hour of Prayer

Sweet hour of prayer that calls me from a world of care,

Choir members must commit to make as many rehearsals as possible. If you are interested, call Pat Koleda at (586) 992-0646 or just come to our first rehearsal on Monday, September 13, at 6:30.

Tied Together Quilting Circle is back after a year hiatus!  We meet on the third Monday of each month, 7:00 p.m. in the conference room.  We learn new techniques as we do quilting projects together.  We also do projects like banners for the church.  You can work on your own project while you enjoy the company of other quilters.  You do not need to be a member of St. John to come.  We’d love to see new people and old members come back!  For more information, call Kathie Proctor 586-784-5054 or Leona Thorman 810-798-8537.
