We worship You, we give You thanks, we praise You for Your glory.

PRAYER OF THE DAY: WOV Page 30
P: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
P: Let us pray…
C: Lord, help us to understand that what we call work is more than a job and more than the labor of our hands. For you have called us to be more than a pay check, and more than a degree. We are followers of Jesus and his” job” for us is to love, to care and to serve others as He has served us. Amen.
CHILDREN’S SERMON Pastor Mark Evans
THE WORD OF GOD:
First Reading: Isaiah 65:17-25
17"Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. 18But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy.
19I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. 20"Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. 21They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. 23They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them. 24Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. 25The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD.
Psalm 127
1 Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.
2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat-- for he grants sleep to those he loves.
3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.
Second Lesson: Philippians 2:12-18
12Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, 13for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. 14Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe 16as you hold out the word of life--in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing. 17But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613
C:
Celtic Alleluia
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
Al – le – lu – ia, al – le – lu – ia!
P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the 5th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.
The Holy Gospel: John 5:15-17
15The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.
16So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews persecuted him.
17Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working."
P: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON: “So, How Do You Like Your Job?” Pastor Mark Evans
PRAISE HYMN: He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.
He’s got the wind and the rain in His hands,
He’s got the wind and the rain in His hands,
He’s got the wind and the rain in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.
He’s got you and me, brother, in His hands,
He’s got you and me, sister, in His hands,
He’s got all God’s children in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.

APOSTLES' CREED (stand, if you are able): WOV Page 33
C: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.*
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
OFFERING/OFFERTORY: (Stand, if you are able, and sing)…………. LBW 565

Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
A: Let us pray. Merciful God,
C: we offer with joy and thanksgiving what You have first given us--ourselves, our time, and our possessions, signs of Your gracious love. Receive them for the sake of Him who offered Himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HIS TABLE
♥ Every third Tuesday of each month, St. John has joined with the United Methodist Church in Romeo in serving a free meal to the less fortunate in our community. We need three to five volunteers for each service day. The meal is served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at United Methodist. Food can be prepared here and transported to United Methodist or prepared there. All food will be paid for by St. John from our Community Outreach budget. Currently the program is serving approx. 40 meals and 7 delivered meals to shut ins. There is a sign up sheet in the gathering area if you are interested in participating. Total time invested would be about 5 *very rewarding* hours.
