CHILDREN’S SERMON                Pastor Mark Evans

PRAISE HYMN:             He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands

He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.

He’s got the whole world in His hands.

He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands,
He’s got the whole world in His hands.

BAPTISM:   (No photographs, please until after worship.  The Service of Baptism is an opportunity for all of us to remember our Baptisms.)

P:   Dear Parents and Sponsors, you have brought Blake Joseph Warzin, Addison Elizabeth Weiss and Christopher Brennan Weiss to this place because God wants them to be washed and cleansed.  Through sin, we live in a broken world, but in baptism, by water and the spirit, we are reborn children of God and made members of Christ’s Body.

S:   We present Blake Joseph Warzin, Addison Elizabeth Weiss and Christopher Brennan Weiss to be washed in God’s Baptismal water.

P:   As parents and sponsors, you are now asked to see that these children grow up in the
Christian Faith; that they learn the stories of our Faith.  See to it that through your lives they understand the meaning of the Creeds, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. Make sure that they experiences the love of Christ through your love, for it is Christ’s love which shall sustain them throughout their lives. Will you keep these promises?

Parents & Sponsors:   We will.

P:   Together, with this Congregation of Believers, will you affirm your faith and the Faith into which Blake, Addison and Christopher are baptized?

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH:  (congregation together)
God is love, and in God is the source of all goodness and truth.  God is the creator of the universe and continues to recreate with us a kingdom of compassion for all humankind.  Jesus is God’s Son.  Jesus was born of Mary, lived a life of kindness and concern, died a cruel death on an executioner’s cross, and was raised on the third day to a new life.  Jesus’ life is our life.  We can now
live a life of kindness and concern; we can die and be raised to new life; we can live as forgiven sinners, confident of our place in eternity.  We can respond to the call of Christ to follow him.  The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, alive and at work, establishing and building the realm of God on this earth.  The Spirit of God leads us into the true faith, guides us through the difficult choices of life, and comforts us when we feel as if we cannot go on.  God is with us, living inside of us, through the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

THE BAPTISM:  Blake Joseph Warzin, Addison Elizabeth Weiss and Christopher Brennan Weiss, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

BAPTISMAL PRAYER
P:   Blake, Addison and Christopher, children of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the Cross of Christ forever.

A:   Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

CONGREGATIONAL WELCOME:    We welcome you into the Lord’s family.  We receive you as fellow members of the body of Christ, children of the same heavenly Father, and workers with us in the kingdom of God.

 Today we welcome Blake Joseph Warzin, Addison Elizabeth Weiss and Christopher Brennan Weiss into our family of Christ.  Blake is the son of Ben and Kelly (Cochran) Warzin of Romeo.  Blake’s sponsors are Kelly and Mike McBarth.  Addison and Christopher’s parents are Christopher and Meredith (Brennan) Weiss of Washington.  Addison’s sponsors are Megan Gilmore and Matt Stromer.  Christopher’s sponsors are Mark and Carol Gallagher and Doris and Scott Stromer.

THE WORD OF GOD:
First Reading:  Jeremiah 31:31-34
31"The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.  32It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, "declares the LORD.  33 "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.  34No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more."

Psalm 119:33-40
33    Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the
        end.
34    Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all
        my heart.
35    Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
36    Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.
37    Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to
        your word.
38    Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared.
39    Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good.
40    How I long for your precepts! Preserve my life in your righteousness.

Second Reading: Ephesians 6:13-18
13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.  14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.  16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.  17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION (stand): WOV No. 613
C:
     Celtic Alleluia

                                       Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!

    Al – le – lu – ia,  al – le – lu – ia!

P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the 7th Chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord.

The Holy Gospel:  John 7:14-19
14Not until halfway through the Feast did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach.  15The Jews were amazed and asked, "How did this man get such learning without having studied?"  16Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me.  17If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.  18He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.  19Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?"

P: The Gospel of the Lord.

C: Praise to you, O Christ.

SERMON:                     “Do You Know What You Believe?”           Pastor Mark Evans

OFFERING/OFFERTORY: (Stand, if you are able, and sing)…………. LBW 565
C: Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
 Praise Him, all creatures here below;
 Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
A: Let us pray. Merciful God,
C: we offer with joy and thanksgiving what You have first given us--ourselves,  our time, and our possessions, signs of Your gracious love.  Receive them  for the sake of Him who offered Himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
   forever and ever. Amen.
